Nien Mari Chatz
“NOMADANCE”
Contact Improvisation & Creative Movement
with Nien Mari Chatz (Germany/France)
You do not have to be good…
you only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves…
(Mary Oliver, Dream Work)
Listening to oneself and our body’s intelligence
might reveal to us the
secrets of our inner landscapes, inviting us to
dance and share our vision of the present moment.
A poem, a partner, music, silence, or the empty
space can become the beginning of a journey.
Dancing sun, moon, ocean, shadow with our hearts
and spirits ready, will awaken our appetites to
move and might transform us into dancing nomads
who embark into new adventures without knowing
which path will present itself.
We will practice :
Becoming a witness to the body and nourishing
its knowledge, discovering new ways of moving.
Dancing without effort from our own feeling of
beeing where we are and who we are.
Improvising together with a partner without loosing
ourselves.
Exploring acceptance, softness, letting go, as
well as manipulation, decisionmaking and getting
wild.
Our explorations will be grounded on
1.Bodywork and Hands-on practice (based on Release
and Body Mind Centering)
2.Contact improvisation
3.Authentic Movement
Nien Mari Chatz
NMCH, born in Germany,
completed her dance studies at the School for
New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam, during
which time she studied Release technique, Body
Mind Centering and Contact Improvisation with
the founders of these forms. From 1986- 96 NMCH
has been faculty of the SNDO , and is actualy
teaching in France and abroad.
In performance, NMCH collaborates with dancers,
choreographers and visual artists internationnally.
As a dancer and teacher I am interested in creating
experimental situations which allow the body to
feel good and confident. I trust that learning
through play can go far, that silence and patience
are interesting, that clear fokus and lightness
in dancing allow for both, non-violent communication
and animalistic power, and that such practice
will free up new, more subtle, authentic and diversified
possibilies for creative interaction.
I am interested in the integration of dancing
and living, and in healing through creating.

Shahar Dor
“Improvisational solo performance
intensive”
In this intensive we will practice ways to create
a poetic, intimate & exposed presence in improvisational
solo performance.
We will aim to extend movement possibilities and
creative freedom, while specifying the physical
story telling in relation to space, scenery, coherency
and image. We will work to connect between inner
world - our unique intelligence and vocabulary
and the need in a specific & communicative
body while presenting work.
We will work in solo, small groups and in front
of the big group.
This practice consists of being moment to moment,
having a communicative, breathing body and a taste
of artistic vision as we perform.
we will approach the work in a gentle and dynamic
way opening up to the opportunities embodied in
the details of body, movement, space, breath,
posture, technique, musicality….thoughts…point
of view, allowing our character to communicate
a reality through a relaxed and available body
and mind.
Participants are asked to bring supporting costumes/objects
(dress..suit..cloth.. shoes..umbrella..water pipes…)
that will allow them more playfulness, depth,
troth, satisfaction, possibilities, challenge
and creativity as they explore and show work.

Orly Portal and Shai Dayan (Israel)
"Music and Dance ‘On
the Way Home"
The Five Great Elements Workshop
Music and dance are powerful primary channels,
through which one can experience his or her oneness
with existence. In ancient cultures they were
used as ritual tools to bridge between man and
God, but in western society they got placed upon
a stage, fenced off as art, and lost of their
accessibility as a daily, direct, joyful and liberating
experience.
Music and dance are tools that enable us to learn
the way to freedom - a state in which a person
ceases to perceive oneself as separate from the
whole, and becomes liberated from the need to
be someone or something.
In the core of the experience of freedom lies
the realization that there’s one source
to all.
The Five Great Elements (according to Yogic tradition)
-
In one small seed treasured the entire universe.
In order to manifest itself, the seed needs EARTH
to contain and nourish it,
WATER to revive it, AIR to breath and move its
components, FIRE to transform them and ETHER to
give space for all to happen.
Like the seed, man built of a body that contains
and nourishes him, emotion that flows within,
desire that drives him, knowledge that transforms
him and a soul that unifies him. These are the
cornerstones of our worldly existence.
The value of that perspective is that when we
become aware of these forces, and the way they
act in the outside as well as the inside world,
we can learn a lot about ourselves and the world;
and maybe it can remind us that we are not a separate
and limited unit in a strange world, as we tend
to feel, but the world itself.
Each person has his own particular constitution,
built out of a different combination of the great
elements; no two humans are the same. But the
deeper we go, the clearer it becomes that we are,
in fact, unified.
In the intensive we will explore end experience
the great elements with our body, mind and spirit.
Each day will be dedicated to a different element.
We will use movement, music, voice and conversation
to get familiar with the different forces. We
will witness their manifestations in the different
levels of being, from the simplest body functions,
to the more subtle states of awareness. It is
a process of unfoldment, which means removing
rather then adding.
Come with open minds and a sincere will to let
go.
The workshop is for all freedom seekers.
Shai Dayan – Musician, meditation teacher
and
alternative therapist. Composes music for dance
projects and films. Studied philosophy and meditation
in India for 5 years. In the last 11 years explores
the connection between music and meditation, and
their use as tools to understand our true nature.
Orly Portal – Dancer, teacher, movement
and voice therapist. Developed a unique technique
of belly dancing teaching as a healing tool. Instructs
improvisation workshops and performed with different
international artists around the world.
Orly and Shai have been running the On The Way
Home project for two years now. It includes annual
curses, one-time workshops and performances, both
privet and institutional.
Both of them are artists not for the sake of art,
but as a path to
freedom, as a tool to peel off identities, personality
and ego. |
